Personal Projects and activities during High School

Ballet Folkloric Dance class (2019/20 + 2020/21 + 2021/22 + 2022/23)
This dance class, which I started in my Freshman year, connects me to Mexican culture. It’s a great way to bring dance and culture together. We learn about the various regions of Mexico, the dresses, and the dance styles.
I loved the Spanish culture in Europe, and by dancing in this group, I learn a lot about Mexican culture and life.
In 10th grade, I became an Officer, and I’m working hard to represent my position during 11th grade.

Culture Club at Austin High, (2020/21 + 2021/22 + 2022/23)
Since I’ve been in the Culture club, I’ve got to know some students who also come from other countries and now live in the US.
We exchange ideas about the different countries of origin, experiences, and cultures. We share information and also cook and eat foods from foreign countries together!

Life buddies (2021)
This is a project for disabled children to care about them during the „Online-time“ which means during the time, we can not be in person in school. We talk to them via Zoom, play virtual games or communicate online to show them we all are not alone.

International Club at Austin High, (2021/22)
The International Club is not the same as the Culture Club. Here we care about Exchange students, create and show presentations about different countries and talk about actual political and cultural themes.

My interests and goals

Photography
Photography is my passion, and becoming a Photographer is my career goal.
You can see a few photo projects from my Photo Class in the Yunior Year on my portfolio website.

During the fall of 2022, I took classes at the Austin School of Photography in Austin, TX, and joined some Workshops with professional photographers to develop my skills.
In 2021, I won a Silver Key in the Texas Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and got 4 Honored mentions in the US-wide ATPI fall Contest for my photos.

Arts and painting
I like art and painting in various ways. You can see select pieces of my artwork and drawings on my art website.

During the summer of 2020, I took an art class at the Laguna Gloria art school in Austin, TX, and created an art project called (S)milestones.
I also took part in the Texas High School VASE contest in the Spring of 2020.

Animals and Nature
Because I can not have a domestic animal and it’s not possible to volunteer in an animal shelter during the pandemic, I found another way to protect and care about animals.
I’ve adopted a wolf in a nearby zoo and helped with our visits and donations. In Germany, I also had an adopted animal in our local zoo, a fruit bat! Volunteering for the Austin Park Foundation or projects like „Keep Austin Beautiful“ I help to clean Parks and Greenbelts or to remove invasive plants.
We all want a clean environment and have to take care about our communities and neighborhoods.

Swimming
Swimming and Diving are my favorite sports. Unfortunately, I am not on a swimming team, but I want to become a Lifeguard in the summer of 2023.

Traveling
I love to travel on the whole world! During my life in Europe and my time in the U.S., I have visited many great places, cities, and countries. This you can see on my Travel links.

Languages
My native language is German, but since I’m in the U.S., I have to speak, write and think in English. This is not easy for me, but I like growing up bilingual now.
In my earlier school, I had two semesters of the French language, and I started learning American sign language.
